"Ho la tua Nugrape gelata"
Albicocca’s La Madre Pazzo, Act. III, Scene 5
Gooienne Bloemen, soprano; Ikheb Liefstem, tenor; Ivoor Strelen, piano
This lovely duet is the first known example of product placement in a work of public entertainment. After some initial resistance on aesthetic grounds, Albicocca was persuaded by the opera's flamboyant producer, Gouden Douche, to replace the poisoned wine that Medea was to offer to Jason with a soft drink. With his usual genius, the composer overcame the crass commercialism which could have ruined this crucial scene by creating for it a sense of romantic intimacy, choosing only a spare, unobtrusive piano score to accompany the tender Ho la tua Nugrape gelata.
