Letter to The New York Times, sent a few days ago.
Minorities feel oppressed by the white majority. The white majority, soon also to be a minority, feels oppressed by minorities. This anger of groups of Americans – white supremacists, black protestors, LGBT activists – directed against other groups of Americans is misguided, perhaps even purposefully misdirected. Yes, the truth is that all Americans (well, 99% of us) are oppressed. The real source of this oppression should be perfectly clear from the fact that the Republican National Convention is being held in a place called the Quicken Loans Arena and the Democratic National Convention in a venue called the Wells Fargo Center.
